Speed
The speed a printer prints at is measured in pages per minute (ppm) with black & white printing being much faster than colour. Most standard inkjet printers are capable of printing at least 8 ppm in colour and 8 ppm in black and white. A standard laser will be faster, printing around 15 black and white pages per minute.
Print on to CDsCD printing
Some printers a special attachment so that you can print your own CDs.

Number of colours
Printers which use 6 or more colours give more realistic colour tones.
Card slot
Some photo printers feature a memory card slot which allows you to print directly from your digital camera’s memory card.
Borderless printing
Printers that offer borderless printing can print right up to the edge of the paper. Especially useful when printing photos.
Picalitre
If you are printing photos look for printers with a small picalitre. This is the size of the ink droplet. Smaller picalitres give more detailed images.
