TV Buying Guide

TVs have come on in leaps and bounds over the last few years thanks to a range of new technologies that deliver razor sharp pictures and fantastic sound from stunning designs. And with the digital switchover just around the corner, it’s now a great time to buy a new TV.

This buyer’s guide talks you through the new technologies, explains all the jargon and gives you plenty of expert and impartial advice.

Wall-mounting, stands & cables

Wall brackets

LCD and plasma TVs look great when mounted on a wall. The slim profile of a wall mounted flat panel TV will give your living space a clean and uncluttered look.

If you are considering wall mounting your TV then there are two main types of wall bracket to consider: flat-to-wall or swivel & tilt. A flat-to-wall bracket will simply hold your TV securely in one place while the swivel and tilt bracket gives you the added benefit of being able to tilt or rotate your screen to find the best viewing angle.

HDMI cables

If you want to enjoy high definition pictures (e.g. from a Blu-ray Player or Sky+ HD Box) on your 1080p TV screen then you will need to connect them together using an HDMI cable. HDMI cables are great because they carry high definition digital picture and sound signals at super fast speeds.

Monster HDMI

Not all HDMI cables are equal – some transmit faster than others and the faster your cable, the better your picture.

Monster Cable's range of blisteringly fast HDMI cables are designed to help you get the best possible performance from your 1080p TV. Only Monster offers such advanced speed rated cables, with their performance verified by Simplay.

As a general rule, higher bandwidth cables transmit more data, which means a sharper, clearer picture. The exact cable you need depends on your particular home entertainment set up. To make sure you get the right one just visit your local store and ask one of our Sales Advisors for advice.
