ExtraCare FAQs

ExtraCare FAQs

  • Can I purchase ExtraCare at a later date?
You can take out ExtraCare at any time within 30 days of your product purchase. We can provide you with a quote to guarantee today's price for this period.
  • Can a service plan be purchased elsewhere?
You can arrange to buy a warranty or a service plan from insurers, utility companies, credit card companies, manufacturers, some other retailers and specialist online providers, but they may not provide the same level of support or service as Comet.
  • Will I be covered under home content insurance?
Your household insurance policies may cover you for accidental damage, fire or theft of your product. However, you may also need to pay an excess charge and pay back the cost of the repair. Subsequent premiums may increase as a result of claims. Check your household insurance policy carefully.
  • If Comet ceased to trade, would my product still be protected?
The Warranty Group Services (Isle of Man) Limited is the provider of the ExtraCare Service Plan. To protect you in the event of The Warranty Group Services (Isle of Man) Limited going out of business, a Trust Fund held by an independent trustee is used to ensure that the financial obligations of The Warranty Group Services (Isle of Man) Limited can be met.
  • Won't my purchase come with a guarantee?
Yes. Most manufacturers offer 12 months guarantee against any technical fault, but will not provide the set up and on-going support, may ask you to pay for call out charges where no fault is found and will not usually pay for breakdowns as a result of mishaps.
  • Will my plan end if I have any repairs?
No. Under ExtraCare your Plan will continue after you have had a repair. However, should we decide to replace your product with a new one, (excluding ExtraCare Select where the Plan will continue regardless of how many exchanges are made) or offer you Comet vouchers, then the Plan will end.
  • If my product breaks down do I not have rights under the Sale of Goods Act?
Consumers are protected under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and under the Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002. If the appliance is not of satisfactory quality or fit for purpose, you have the right to claim for repair or replacement for up to 6 years. However, after the first 6 months it is up to you to prove the appliance was faulty when purchased - this may involve you taking legal proceedings. For more information contact your local trading standards department or Citizens Advice Bureau.
