Want to take your home entertainment system to another level? A new TV bracket can help you do this – literally! Mounting your TV onto the wall saves space, reduces clutter, and can create better angles for everyone to have a better viewing experience. Plus any children or pets (or you) are far less likely to knock your telly over.

But, if trusting a metal frame with your precious TV makes you a little nervous, never fear! Simply look out for the following qualities to pick the right wall bracket for you.

Weight capacity

The last thing you want is to hang your telly, step back to enjoy your efforts… and then hear an almighty crash. So, before you do anything, make sure your new TV mount specs match your TV.

For example, even if a TV wall mount is the right size for your model, it may not have the right weight capacity. Fortunately, at Comet, we have a wide range of TV wall mounts for you to choose from to suit all shapes and sizes of TV.

Top tip: don’t forget to follow the installation instructions to the letter. When properly installed, the right TV wall mount could be strong enough to support the weight of a fully grown adult – so it should have no qualms with your flat screen.

VESA

Standing for the Video Electronics Standards Association, the VESA interface dictates the distance between the mounting holes on your TV. This measurement is displayed as the horizontal distance x the vertical distance – for example, 600 x 400.

You should always check the specifications of your TV and wall mount before you buy, as whilst there can be some general observations made for each size, this isn’t exact.

TV wall mount types

Not all wall mounts are made equal. Whilst they attach your TV onto the wall, certain wall mounts have a different profile and type that will affect which one will look best in your living room. Fortunately, the names of these TV wall bracket types are fairly self-explanatory.

Fixed

Fixed wall mounts hold flush to the wall and don’t move, giving you a flatter profile for a more sleek, modern finish. They’re perfect if you have the space to sit directly in front of the screen.

However, fitted TV wall mounts may not leave a lot of room for cables and connections behind the TV once mounted. So, make sure you plug any cables in beforehand, or look for side connections on your TV.

Tilt or swivel

If you sit and watch telly from an angle, then you should consider getting a tilting TV wall bracket. As the name suggests, this type of wall bracket allows you to tilt your TV to the best angle for your living room set up (within reason). For example, if you need to hang your TV higher on the wall, you could set the screen to tilt down until you can see the whole image comfortably. Tilted TV wall mounts are more flexible, and can be adjusted – but once you’ve decided on the right angle, make sure to lock it in place to avoid slippage.

On the other hand, if tilting mounts move your TV vertically, a swivel TV bracket allows for horizontal movement. This includes moving the screen closer to you, which is incredibly useful for fitting or changing cables when you need to.

Full motion

Last, but certainly not least, full motion wall brackets (unsurprisingly) allow for a full range of movements in each direction. These fully articulated wall mounts are perfect for more awkward room shapes – like if you need to hang your telly near or in the corner of the room.
